Color Theory

3D environments, animation & visual effects
Film by Jaime Sunwoo

Color Theory is a short film by Jaime Sunwoo that turns a fictional lecture, assembled from artists’ and architects’ words, into an inquiry into how ideas about color shape our understanding of race.

My contribution

Working with footage shot largely in a green-screen studio with a small cast, I created animated assets, 3D backgrounds and environments, and digital audiences that expanded the scale of the film. My work included detailed rotoscoping, keying, compositing, visual effects, color correction, and video editing, bringing the filmed performances and constructed elements into a shared visual world.

Miracle Meat

Animation & label design
For Specially Processed American Me by Jaime Sunwoo

Specially Processed American Me is a surreal autobiographical performance that uses SPAM to explore Jaime Sunwoo’s Asian American upbringing, her family’s experiences of the Korean War, and the food’s military and cultural history across the Asia-Pacific.

My contribution

I created the Miracle Meat animation and designed its label for the production. The images below show the label, the rendered can and the design within a live performance.

Project context

The performance brings together music, shadowplay and cooking, moving between absurd humor and personal history.
